Cocktails & Conversations is at SoPro on March 1 from 4 - 6 pm. Our March event appetizers are sponsored by the Staff Council. All faculty and staff are invited to join us downtown to end the week with free appetizers and good company! See you there.

In collaboration with the School of Humanities, the CFD will be hosting a grant writing workshop series open to faculty, graduate students, and staff this academic year. Across several monthly two-hour sessions, participants will gain more information on:

·       Finding grants using resources through ORA | Sept. 8
·       Creating a timeline and plan to complete an application | Sept. 29
·       Reviewers’ perspective on successful grant applications | Nov. 3
·       Working Meeting: Show up to work on an application and get feedback | Jan. 19
·       Grant Writing for the Humanities | Feb. 9
·       Grant Writing for Creative Activities | Mar. 22
·       Grant Writing for Non-profit Organizations | April 5

Attendees will also get opportunities to foster collaborations with other participants and time to work on an application with support from the group. Sessions will be held on Friday mornings from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m.

This writing group aims to support faculty,  staff, and graduate student research by designating time for writing and increasing productivity through peer support and personal accountability.  Join us on Zoom and plan to focus time on writing an article, book chapter, grant proposal, blog, grading or another project.  

Show Up and Write! will meet virtually every Thursday this spring from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. beginning January 18, 2024 and will conclude May 2. These sessions are come-and-go as needed for your schedule and does not include peer exchange. Faculty, staff and graduate students from all disciplines and ranks are welcome to attend.

Remind Me

This session focuses on addressing cyber threats within the higher education sector. The discussion aims to provide participants with insights on how to protect themselves, their systems, and their data from potential cyber threats. Topics covered may include best practices for cybersecurity, identifying common threats in the educational environment, University Initiatives, and implementing effective protective measures. Overall, the goal is to empower faculty and staff to enhance their cybersecurity posture.

This webinar features a presentation by Greg Mallette, the Cybersecurity State Coordinator for Mississippi at the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Mr. Mallette serves as a federal cybersecurity risk advisor for state, local, tribal, and territorial government (SLTT) and private sector partners. His role involves assisting these entities in developing and maintaining secure and resilient critical infrastructure. Additionally, he plays a key role in facilitating the exchange of cyber threat information between federal and non-federal entities. The webinar is designed to raise cybersecurity awareness and provide valuable insights into the efforts undertaken by CISA to enhance cybersecurity at both the state and federal levels.
